As a Data Service Provider, Are You Future Ready?

Asia Pacific is on the brink of an unprecedented Broadband technology revolution. With seamless technologies like Tablets & Smart Phones and newer forms of Internet technologies at the helm, it isn’t surprising to know that the APAC region comprises almost half of the mobile subscriber population in the world. With the increase in mobile subscribers, there is a subsequent surge in mobile data traffic. Smartphones have become an integral part of our daily lives. We use them for almost anything and everything spanning the spectrum of reading online content, listening to music and podcasts, watching educational and entertainment videos & music to even learning a new recipe or learning to jive.

Widespread Internet penetration has brought about a new bend in the lifestyle and interaction patterns of the people of APAC. The region is contributing to the global phenomenon of Data usage that is leading to a surge in mobile data consumption. According to Analysis Mason, APAC is all set to witness 5-fold growth in Mobile Data usage. Other key trends that are fast picking up in the region are FTTP and LTE.

FTTP is driving growth in the Asia Pacific region excluding Japan. The LTE market in Asia Pacific is expected to reach $390 billion by 2020, making it the fastest growing LTE market on the globe with China, the world’s largest mobile market, contributing to the APAC market share for FTTP and LTE alike. Telcos will be able to address the challenge of decreasing ARPU with exponential growth in LTE and mobile data. These trends have placed APAC in the spotlight for Broadband service providers.

There is considerable impact on fixed broadband market because of the rapid uptake of mobile data/ wireless broadband technology. Despite the pressure, Asia Pacific excluding Japan is expected to grow for the next 5 years, with emerging markets like Indonesia, Thailand, China and Malaysia contributing to rapid growth. FTTP overtook DSL to become the dominant fixed broadband technology. The penetration of high-speed broadband has boosted the spread of IPTV. These growth trends are expected to continue till 2018.

As the markets are fast becoming saturated with Telcos trying to improve their ARPU, there is a pivotal challenge that needs to be addressed by Telcos – the need for a Future Proof Billing System. There is an increasing need for Convergent Real-Time Billing as operators keep adding new services to catch up with the growing demands trends and even moods of their current and prospective subscriber base.

Operators cannot keep adding Billing Systems in the same way in which they add new services. Managing billing systems has always been a daunting task for content service providers. The main goal of operators is to reduce costs, raise revenues and improve customer loyalty.

A Convergent Billing system offers just that with the added advantage of reducing the cost of ownership on the one hand and increasing ARPU on the other. A Convergent Billing System is a one-stop shop for Rating, Charging and Billing; with the main aim of making a service provider focus on their business while an evolved Billing system takes care of Subscriber Management. As a service provider, are you market ready? If yes, are you SURE!?
